I had a banner week harvesting in the garden! Most of the past week was in the 80s, and my plants were displaying their best fruit just in time for the county fair. Unfortunately, the cold is coming a couple weeks earlier than normal, so this may be my last big harvest week of the year (at least, until the fall crops mature). I harvested 4 tomatoes, a handful of greens, over 3.5 pounds of snap beans (my last of the year), almost 3 pounds of eggplant, almost 6 pounds of winter squash, and over 12 pounds of peppers! Garden bounty photos!
Yesterday afternoon, I was back at the fairgrounds, submitting some of my garden produce in the horticulture competition of my county fair. This is my first time submitting in this competition, and I spent a lot of time making sure I submitted my very best. I spent a couple hours in the garden, harvesting everything that was ripe. Then I chose the most perfect produce of each variety (or decided I didn’t have anything competition worthy). The judging takes place this morning (in time for the fair’s opening tonight), and I’ll find out tomorrow if I won any ribbons for my gardening skills. Meanwhile, here’s what I submitted. Horticulture competition submissions!
It was a great week of harvests last week. I picked my first lima beans, Amish paste tomato, honeydew melon, and white watermelon – along with everything else. All total, I harvested 1 (2 pound) honeydew melon, 1 (9 pound) white watermelon, 13 cucumbers, 1/2 pound of snap beans (they’re just about done), 1.5 pounds of lima beans (shelled), 3 pounds of eggplant, 1.5 pounds of peppers, and 11 pounds of tomatoes! I think it’s time to put up some tomatoes. Garden bounty pictures!
Although it’s been in the 90s for weeks, my garden is still producing. I harvested 15 cucumbers, 1.5 pounds of winter squash, 6.2 pounds of peppers, 5.5 pounds of tomatoes, 2 pounds of beans, and 5.5 pounds of onions. Not too shabby! My garden bounty in pictures!
This weekend, I harvested my first tomatoes and eggplants. It was also quite the weekend for harvesting beans, peppers, and cucumbers, too. I harvested 3 eggplants, 19 cucumbers, 2 pounds of tomatoes, 5 pounds of peppers, and 5 pounds of snap beans. Garden bounty in pictures!
I think I can now say that summer has arrived in my garden because I reaped a summer’s harvest in the past week! I harvested about 2.5 pounds of various greens, 3.5 pounds of sweet and hot peppers, 3 pounds of various snap beans, 116 heads of garlic, 3 onions, 63 radishes, 8 cucumbers, and my first tomato. Pictures of my garden bounty!
