Just as my dill is starting to grow back, I find a second round of Black Swallowtail caterpillars in my yard. This time, they’re munching on my parsley. This is the one crop eater that I allow in my garden because the butterflies they’ll become are so beautiful, and they’re pollinators. This is also one insect I’ve actually touched! Yes, I’ve actually petted their smooth bodies. (Coming from an insectiphobe, that’s pretty impressive.) Anyway, here are a few pictures of this “litter” of caterpillars.
I counted about 18 of these babies on my two pots of curly parsley last week.
They made short work of eating all my parsley, but after a couple days, it’s growing back.
The other day, I found a couple more on my flat parsley, which is on the other side of my patio. Must be another batch!
Do you have any butterfly caterpillars in your garden?
