National Public Gardens Day on 5/10/13

I live next to one of the most beautiful public gardens in the southeast, but I’ve been there only once – thirty years ago when I first visited Charleston, SC! Tomorrow, I have the opportunity to visit Magnolia Plantation and Gardens FOR FREE, and I’m going to go. I found out last night that tomorrow is National Public Gardens Day, and you can get a voucher good for two free admissions to the public gardens near you. National Public Gardens Day is an annual celebration of public gardens sponsored by the American Public Gardens Association and Rain Bird. Per the National Public Gardens Day website, their mission is to share with the American public “the important role botanical gardens and arboreta play in promoting environmental stewardship, plant and water conservation, green spaces, and education in communities nationwide.” Each participating gardens will have various activities and special events to celebrate the day. For me, it will be an opportunity to take in the beauty of my local public garden, giving me ideas for my own.

If you have the day off tomorrow (or are willing to play hooky), get your free voucher here. And don’t forget your camera, so you can take lots of pictures and enter them in the National Public Gardens Day photo contest!
